If you only fix one meal, make breakfast protein

A carb-only start — cereal, toast, a pastry, coffee and nothing solid — will fill you for about twenty minutes. Then you are standing in the kitchen again by mid-morning, calling it hunger when the breakfast never had a job.

Protein holds longer than carbs alone. It slows the meal down so you stay fuller and graze less before lunch. That is why I tell people: if you can only fix one meal this week, make it the morning.

Simple options that actually work:

  • Eggs (scrambled, hard-boiled, whatever you will eat)
  • Greek yogurt — plain or with a scoop of protein mixed in, berries if you want them
  • Protein shake plus fruit (or a small piece of toast if you need the solid)
  • Cottage cheese
  • Leftover chicken, turkey, or whatever protein you already cooked

A practical rule of thumb: aim for protein to be about half the plate at every meal. Not half your life. Half the plate. Then the rest can be vegetables, fruit, and the carbs you want, especially on training days.

If your body is changing — restart after a gap, fat shifting on HRT, coming back after injury or surgery — muscle is still the thing worth feeding. Protein is how you feed that work. This is coaching, not medical care. If a clinician told you to watch protein, talk to them first.

I’m not telling you it’s going to be easy. I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it.

Next step: Eat protein at breakfast tomorrow. Just do that one thing.
